Quick and Easy Baguettes

Ingredients

1 and 1/2 cups warm water
1 tablespoon honey or white sugar
 1 package active dry yeast
 1 teaspoon baking powder
 1  teaspoon salt
 2 tablespoons butter, room temperature
3 cups of flour and more on hand for kneading
 1 egg white, for browning

Steps

1. Proof the yeast in a bowl of the warm water and sugar.
2. Add the butter, salt, and flour 1 cup at a time. The dough should be very sticky.
3. Knead for 10 - 15 minutes. This is easier with a stand mixer. If kneading by hand, use a floured surface. Add 1/4 cup of flour if the dough is still sticky after the first five minutes.
4. Shape into baguette logs and place the loaves on a greased baking pan.
5. Use a knife to slash the top of the baguettes.
6.  Preheat the oven to 450 degrees
7. Cover the dough and allow it to rise for 20 minutes.
8. Beat the egg white and brush the tops of the loaves.
9. Bake for 20 minutes.
10. Cool and enjoy.

Update:

We made our Baguettes from scratch, and learned how to braid bread dough.
